Dr. Alexis Tischler was born and raised in Massapequa, Long Island, NY.

She attended Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and

Master’s degree in Teaching with a dual certification in both Biology and Agriculture.

She then attended Colorado State University in pursuit of her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian. While attending CSU, she served as a manager and volunteer for their Pet Hospice Program from 2013-2016 & has known since her early years of veterinary school that her true calling was to work in end-of-life veterinary care. She has always found herself the most fulfilled by being able to help owners during the most delicate time of their beloved pet’s life.  She has a true passion for comforting owners through this difficult process and guiding families on deciding "when"

as much as she is honored to peacefully assist her clients' beloved pets.

She will discuss your pet's current condition and fully discuss where the condition may progress to next.

Owners find chatting with Dr. Alexis to be informative, reflective and comforting.

UNIQUE AND ADVANCED TRAINING THAT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE FOR YOUR FAMILY

After graduating, Dr. Alexis became one of currently only ~300 veterinarians in the World who are fully trained and certified in animal hospice and palliative care by the International Association of Animal Hospice and Palliative Care (IAAHPC) & she is also certified by the Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy (CAETA) where she acquired very specific skills in humane home euthanasia techniques.  These certifications are 1.5 years of advanced veterinary training specific to geriatric conditions, pain management as well as peaceful techniques for euthanasia within a home setting.

She is currently the only Veterinarian on Long Island with these unique credentials and a special interest/certification (CHPV) in Animal Hospice and Palliative Care/Home Euthanasia.

(As recognized on https://www.pethospiceproviders.com)

She worked in Colorado for two years following graduation and she has compassionately assisted over 4,000 beloved pets with gentle and peaceful home euthanasia.  While in Colorado, she worked for the very first Home Euthanasia company,

which pioneered this very delicate line of work.

When it comes to compassionate home euthanasia, Dr. Alexis is truly an expert in her field and offers Long Island families the most comprehensive option for End -of-Life Veterinary Care.

Dr. Alexis firmly believes that the key to an animal's quality of life is supportive client communication.

She prides herself on being available for her clients and all communication is directly with her.  She does not have a receptionist and does not utilize call center operators as she wants to be able to address your important questions and biggest concerns from the very start.  This helps to make this delicate process as comforting as possible for everyone involved.  She chooses quality care over a quantity of appointments and your family and beloved pet will always feel like her top priority.

She works individually and due to her extensive background and skill set in certified end-of-life veterinary care,

she does not require the assistance of a technician or assistant, which means a warmer and more personal

approach to your beloved pet's final moments and less stimulation/anxiety for your pet as well.

After working for larger, corporate companies, Dr. Alexis is so honored to be back home in New York where she can practice authentically, compassionately and in a more personalized fashion.  She is hoping to make Long Island as pet friendly as she found Colorado to be, starting with bringing Certified Animal Hospice and Palliative Care home to Long Island.  Pets are certainly family and providing compassionate End-of-Life Veterinary Care right in the comfort of home is one of the best gifts we can give to our cherished companions after their loyal journey by our sides.

In her spare time, Dr. Alexis makes the most of her New York lifestyle by putting some time aside for cooking and shopping. She currently lives in Farmingdale with her mini zoo which includes her senior and special needs dogs (Letty, FroYo, and Moira Rose), two cats (Simba and Chubbs), and her playful chinchilla (Olive).

She is passionate about this delicate line of work and believes that it is not to be taken lightly.

Dr. Alexis' goal is to build awareness of the importance of the IAAHPC Certification and CHPV credentials when a family is seeking the most peaceful and comprehensive End-of-Life Veterinary Care for their beloved pet as well as support for the entire family including children and other pets.  CHPV Veterinarians are the AVMA preferred End-of-Life Veterinary Care providers as these veterinarians have the mastery skill set to provide peaceful home euthanasia when operating alone in the field.

(See https://www.avma.org/resources-tools/avma-policies/veterinary-end-life-care)

**Dr. Alexis discusses this important certification often because she believes families deserve the right to know

the exact care they will be receiving for their delicate pet, especially in a home setting.**

In December 2021, Dr. Alexis became a proud member of the INDEPENDENT VETERINARY PRACTITIONERS ASSOCIATION (IVPA).

This association's mission aligns with Dr. Alexis' mindset in terms of more personalized

(and less commercialized!!) care for your beloved pets.  Care should be based on each patient

and Dr. Alexis customizes her sedation protocol for each patient's current status

and she carries out each process with the highest level of respect and compassion.

**The Veterinary Industry has changed over time with a growing trend towards corporate consolidation.

Dr. Alexis and the IVPA firmly believe that small and local veterinary practices

"are where the most passionate voices in animal medicine continue to be heard" - IVPA website.**

Dr. Alexis and the IVPA believe that (as with all industries with larger and corporate options) that veterinary families and clients should have the option to receive compassionate and comprehensive medical care for their pets,

but strong communication and genuine support for the family as well.

Only small and independent Home Euthanasia Services can provide solid and long lasting care

based on the mutual goals of open communication and the pet as the top priority.

Dr. Alexis firmly believes in quality veterinary care over a rushed, quantity of appointments.

She truly cares about you and your pet.

She is very thankful and honored to now be able to serve New York pets & their loving families across

Nassau County and Suffolk County, all the way out to the East End.

TO LEARN MORE ABOUT DR. ALEXIS AND THE COMPASSIONATE AND KNOWLEDGEABLE CARE SHE PROVIDES, PLEASE SEE HER REVIEWS ON GOOGLE AND FACEBOOK OR CALL TO CHAT WITH HER DIRECTLY. 516-402-4100.

Dr. Alexis is extremely grateful for her heartfelt Google Reviews.  If your family would appreciate client references and the opportunity to chat directly with one of Dr. Alexis' client families, please mention this to Dr. Alexis during your initial phone consult.  She will be happy to offer you personal client references.

Plus any applicable additional fees listed below.

*****Appointments do require contact with your regular veterinarian or a direct veterinarian referral.*****

Please note that all appointments are scheduled on a first come first serve basis. Therefore it is recommended that you contact us prior to your desired appointment day and time to inquire about availability for the week. (Closed on Thursdays)  Dr. Alexis does her absolute best to accommodate as many families as possible. Dr. Alexis' voicemail will state her next available appointment and any closure dates.  Please note that any availability is based on the timing and location of previously scheduled appointments and in the event of unexpectedly high phone call volumes, any current availability stated in Dr. Alexis' voicemail may be subject to change, but she will always offer your family the next available appointment for your specific location.

** Dr. Alexis is a sole practitioner.  She strives to provide a personal, unique and caring experience to all families in need of her services.  Out of respect and fairness to all families within the community, Dr. Alexis is unable to temporarily hold appointments and/or book multiple appointment time slots for each individual family.  She understands that this is an incredibly difficult decision for you and your family to make.  If you are in need of additional guidance and assistance, Dr. Alexis recommends her Quality of Life Discussion Consult via phone to help comfort you and guide you.

Please note that appointments are weather permitting and while Dr. Alexis will do her best to keep every appointment, there are rare occasions when appointments may need to be rescheduled due to inclement weather.

Due to the delicate timing of this type of appointment and in order to be able to assist families with more critical situations, Dr. Alexis does not book out more than one week in advance.

In addition to the starting prices listed above,

the following additional fees will apply

based on day, time & location.

Scheduling & Availability :  Dr. Alexis is a solo practitioner and appointments are required as she does operate completely alone.  While this does mean the most comprehensive and personalized care for your family, her schedule does vary from week to week based on phone call volume.  This is unfortunately unpredictable, but Dr. Alexis does her absolute best to accommodate as many families as possible.  Dr. Alexis encourages families to call her for important and comforting guidance as a phone consult is required for booking.  If she misses your call while assisting another family, please leave a voicemail.  Due to the high demand for Dr. Alexis specifically and her high standard of care, same day home euthanasia appointments are often extremely difficult to accommodate due to the timing and location of previously scheduled appointments.  Dr. Alexis' voicemail will always state her current availability which is also updated in the event of any possible cancellations and additional openings.  Contacting Dr. Alexis by phone call/voicemail is the best way to reach her during your time of need.

Distance/Travel time and Extended hours fees:  Dr. Alexis is a solo practitioner and peak traffic conditions significantly extend travel time as well as daily work shift hours.  Sundays, Saturdays and weekday late afternoon/evening appointments are subject to additional travel time costs which Dr. Alexis will include this estimate range in full transparency during your informative and supportive phone consult.  Same day home euthanasia appointments are often extremely difficult to accommodate due to the timing and location of previously scheduled appointments.  Dr. Alexis' voicemail will always state her current availability.

PLEASE NOTE that Dr. Alexis is unavailable for after hours emergencies and unavailable by phone from 5PM - 9AM.  In the event of an emergency, she highly recommends the following clinics:

- VCA Westbury & Emergency Center of Westbury - 516-420-0000. 24/7 Care.

- Atlantic Coast Veterinary Specialists - Bohemia - 631-285-7780. 24/7 Care.

- VEG - Veterinary Emergency Group - Locations in Carle Place (516) 693-8859 and Commack (631) 462-6044

- East End Veterinary Center - Riverhead - (631) 369-4513. 24/7 Care.

Service Areas:

Dr. Alexis is honored to service Nassau and Suffolk Counties.  She is unfortunately unable to service the Five Boroughs.

*Please note that Dr. Alexis Services all of Nassau and Suffolk Counties with the exception of Fire Island and Shelter Island.

Medium & Larger Breed Dogs: There will be an additional fee for medium and large breed dogs based on the weight for medication dosing. This will be discussed during your initial call with Dr. Alexis so that an accurate quote can be provided.

Additional Time:  Each appointment with Dr. Alexis is typically one hour.  In the event a family is in need of any additional doctor discussion/consultation time throughout the regularly scheduled appointment the additional time is billed at an hourly rate of $100/hour.

IMPORTANT - Cancellation Policy:

Dr. Alexis understands that booking this type of appointment can be extremely difficult and certainly hard to predict.  However, her time is extremely limited as a solo mobile Hospice Veterinarian.  She understands that your pet’s health may change prior to your scheduled appointment.  If you feel that you must cancel your appointment with Dr. Alexis, she asks that you please kindly give her 24 hours’ notice, especially for other families in need.

24 hours Notice                           6 Hours or less notice                            2 Hours or less notice                          No fee                                             $150 fee                                      Full cost of the Vet Visit

(No cremation costs to be charged)

Any cancellation shorter than a 24 hour period will severely limit Dr. Alexis’ ability to help another family that may have also needed help during your appointment time.  If the reason for your cancellation is surrounding an unexpected passing of your pet prior to Dr. Alexis’ arrival, please know that Dr. Alexis DOES offer respectful aftercare and can transport your pet for Private or Communal cremation at our partnering crematory, Pet Meadow (Please see services section for details).

Please note that any last-minute cancellation within 2 hours of the appointment arrival time will incur the full cost of the medical portion of the appointment (Dr. Alexis’ fees only, no cremation costs) as paperwork, medications and the vehicle have been properly prepared for the appointment by this time.  If Dr. Alexis has reserved a specific 3-5 hour window for your family, it means that she has fully prepared for your appointment (records, medications, vehicle, etc.) and rearranging such a delicate schedule can be extremely challenging.  If a family cancels an appointment after Dr. Alexis' arrival to their home, the full medical fee will be charged.

Any cancellation within 6 hours of the appointment arrival time will incur a $150 cancel fee because late cancellations prevent us from providing care to another family in need.   Please understand as of April 2021 and after certain circumstances and the fact that Dr. Alexis does operate alone, it is clear that this cancellation policy is necessary for Dr. Alexis to be able to continue to provide compassionate and reliable care to all families in need.

Cancellations must be done via telephone call to Dr. Alexis at 516-402-4100.  Credit card information is required for booking, but your card will not be charged until Dr. Alexis’ arrival to your home.  In the event a cancellation falls under one of the policy guidelines listed above, the credit card will then be charged the full medical cost (appointments cancelled 2 hours or less) or the $150 fee for appointments cancelled in 6 hours or less.  Dr. Alexis and other Comforted Companions Clients appreciate your understanding, attention, and compliance with this cancellation policy.

Payment:

Payment is made at the start of the appointment following paperwork

and the family's decision for respectful aftercare.  It is best to do payment first

so the remainder of the appointment can focus and you and your beloved pet.

Cash or check are preferred (made out to Comforted Companions),

but we do accept all major credit cards.

Holidays: Appointments on the following holidays (when available) incur an additional $200 fee: New Years Eve (after 3PM), New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve (after 3PM) & Christmas Day.

Please contact us for your individualized quote & Dr. Alexis can walk you through the appointment in full detail as well as answer any questions and address any of your concerns. CALL TODAY AND HEAR THE DIFFERENCE.
